Introduction to School of Computer Science and Engineering
Pioneering with hard work and dedication, we open up new paths. The School of Computer Science and Engineering originated from the school's Electronic Computer Teaching and Research Office, which was established in 1982. In 1997, the school established the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, which was renamed the School of Computer Science and Engineering in 2003. In 2018, it was selected as one of the fourth batch of pilot schools for university reform in Hubei Province. In 2019, in response to the needs of national major strategies and innovative development in Hubei Province, the school promoted educational and teaching reforms in artificial intelligence (AI) and new engineering disciplines, and established the School of AI. Over the past 28 years, the school has adhered to the educational philosophy of "cultivating computer talents with solid foundations, broad horizons, a focus on innovation, and high qualities," nurturing the school spirit of "generosity, careful consideration, perseverance, and self-improvement" among students, and has formed a distinctive new model for cultivating computer and AI talents.
The school currently has over 2,900 students, including more than 2,400 undergraduates and over 400 master's/doctoral/international graduate students. The school recruits undergraduates, master's degree candidates, and doctoral degree candidates in the fields of computer science and artificial intelligence. It offers seven undergraduate majors: computer science and technology, software engineering, Internet of Things engineering, digital media technology, intelligent science and technology, cyberspace security, and artificial intelligence. Among them, the majors of intelligent science and technology (2019) and software engineering (2020) have been selected for the "Double Ten Thousand Plan" for the construction of national first-class majors. The majors of software engineering, intelligent science and technology, and computer science and technology have been selected for the first-class major construction plan in Hubei Province. The major of software engineering has been approved by the Ministry of Education for the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" and has passed the China Engineering Education Professional Accreditation. The major of intelligent science and technology has been approved for the "Talent Training Plan for Strategic Emerging (Pillar) Industries in Ordinary schools and Universities in Hubei Province".
The school adheres to the educational and teaching philosophy of "student-centered, everyone can become talented, and comprehensive development", promotes engineering education certification, and continuously improves the quality of education and teaching. Relying on provincial teaching platforms such as "Hubei Provincial Computer Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center" and "Hubei Provincial Intelligent System Virtual Simulation Experimental Teaching Center", with the "New Generation Artificial Intelligence New Engineering Teaching Team" as the core of Hubei Province's excellent teaching team, the school continuously promotes the "New Engineering" reform, achieving remarkable results in education and teaching. The textbook "Artificial Intelligence" won the second prize of the National Excellent Textbook Award (Higher Education Category) in the first National Textbook Construction Award; the school has won one first prize and three second prizes of Hubei Provincial Teaching Achievement Award, and currently has one national first-class course, six provincial first-class courses, more than 20 school-level quality courses (including school-level comprehensive reform and construction projects), five provincial New Engineering construction projects, and 19 off-campus internship bases. The school adheres to the concept of industry-education integration and collaborative development, jointly establishing 12 teaching practice platforms such as Baidu Cloud Artificial Intelligence Laboratory with enterprises like Intel, Huawei, and Shangtang, and jointly founding Huawei ICT school and "Kunpeng & Ascend Industry-Education Integration Education Base" with Huawei.
The school places great emphasis on discipline construction and has formed a distinctive discipline cluster. The school currently offers master's degree programs in three first-level disciplines: Computer Science and Technology, Control Science and Engineering (a key and distinctive discipline in Hubei Province), and Software Engineering. It also offers a master's degree program in Electronic Information (covering fields such as computer technology, software engineering, control engineering, information and communication engineering). Jointly enrolling doctoral students in the doctoral degree program in Control Science and Engineering and the second-level doctoral degree program in Industrial Engineering (self-established).
The school adheres to the fundamental task of fostering students' moral character and cultivating talents, and emphasizes the construction of a faculty team with rigorous academic style and excellent moral conduct. Currently, the school has 126 faculty and staff members, including 102 full-time teachers, 17 professors, 41 associate professors, and 61 teachers with doctoral degrees. Among the teachers, there are national excellent educators, recipients of special government allowances from the State Council, young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions in Hubei Province, recipients of special government allowances in Hubei Province, New Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education, candidates for the New Century High-level Talent Project in Hubei Province, talents plan of the Education Department of Hubei Province, teaching masters of Wuhan University of Technology, and model teachers in moral character.
The school adheres to the scientific research approach of "elevating basic research to a higher level and expanding applied research to a larger scale". Relying on provincial-level scientific research platforms such as the "Hubei Provincial Key Laboratory of Intelligent Robotics" and the "Hubei Provincial Engineering Research Center of Intelligent Production Line Equipment", it conducts basic theoretical and applied research in the fields of computer science and artificial intelligence, making significant contributions to local economic development. It boasts two provincial-level scientific research teams recognized as "Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Science and Technology Innovation Teams in schools and Universities in Hubei Province" and two graduate workstations in Hubei Province. Over the past five years, it has won two Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Progress Awards, received one third-place Wu Wenjun Artificial Intelligence Science and Technology Award, undertaken more than 20 national-level projects, and more than 30 provincial and ministerial-level projects. It has published over 400 high-level scientific research papers indexed by SCI, EI, and ISTP, obtained more than 500 patents and software copyrights, and secured research funding amounting to 80 million yuan.
The school attaches great importance to cultivating students' innovative abilities, and the quality of student training is high. It has nurtured a number of outstanding student models, including the only graduate student from a provincial university to be selected for the National Scholarship Representative List by People's Daily, the Self-improvement Star of Chinese University Students, the Self-improvement Star of Hubei Provincial University Students, the "Graduate Party Member Pacesetter" of Hubei Provincial Universities, and the bronze medal speaker of the "Hundred Student Forum" in Hubei Province. The school has established the first robot soccer team in Hubei Province, which has won 14 championships, 13 second places, and 13 third places in international competitions since 2002; and has won 45 championships, 42 second places, and 55 third places in domestic competitions. Students have repeatedly won major awards in the ICPC International Collegiate Programming Contest. In the past three years, they have obtained more than 600 national-level awards and more than 1,200 provincial-level awards in school student academic competitions such as the "Challenge Cup", "Lanqiao Cup", and "China Robot and Artificial Intelligence Competition". As the only team from Hubei Province participating in the global ICT finals, they achieved the second prize worldwide. The employment rate remains stable at over 96%, and the average postgraduate entrance examination rate of the school has been stable at over 25% in the past three years. The proportion of students obtaining master's and doctoral degrees from top universities at home and abroad has been increasing year by year, and a number of graduates have grown into entrepreneurs, well-known scholars, and industry technical experts.
At the historical convergence of two centenary goals, teachers and students of the School of Computer Science and Engineering and the School of Artificial Intelligence seize the historical opportunity presented by the digitalization, informatization, and intelligent transformation of industries. They remain true to their original aspiration and mission, contributing to the construction of a "Digital China".

Introduction to the School of Artificial Intelligence
In 2019, in response to the national major strategic development and the innovative development needs of Hubei Province, the school thoroughly implemented the "New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Plan" and the "Artificial Intelligence Innovation Action Plan for schools and Universities", promoted the educational and teaching reform of "Artificial Intelligence + New Engineering", and established the School of Artificial Intelligence.
The school currently offers two undergraduate majors: Intelligent Science and Technology and Artificial Intelligence. It relies on the majors of Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Science and Technology to carry out pilot reforms in "AI+ majors". The Intelligent Science and Technology major was established in 2006, being the third batch of such majors nationwide. It was selected into the first batch of national first-class major construction plans, and is a major included in Hubei Province's strategic emerging (pillar) industry talent cultivation plan, as well as a first-class major in Hubei Province.
The school integrates the multidisciplinary strengths of the school and collaborates with renowned enterprises in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), fostering industry-education integration and coordinated development, thereby forming a new model of AI + new engineering construction. The school has established the Baidu Cloud AI Laboratory and the Blue Pigeon-Intel Embedded AI Laboratory, offering over 30 theoretical teaching and practical training courses in the fields of AI and big data. In collaboration with Huawei, the school has jointly established the Huawei ICT school and the "Kunpeng & Ascend Industry-Education Integration Education Base". Zhongke Huilian has founded the AI Research Institute and established practical training bases with a number of industry enterprises, including Xiaomi, Kingsoft, and Fiberhome Telecommunication. The school boasts 2 national-level planning textbooks and 3 provincial-level quality courses. The "Artificial Intelligence" textbook has won the second prize of the National Excellent Textbook Award (Higher Education Category) in the inaugural National Textbook Construction Award.
The school serves as a crucial supporting unit for the comprehensive technological innovation platform of artificial intelligence in Hubei Province. It brings together outstanding faculty and teaching resources from various schools, including the School of Computer Science, the School of Electrical and Information Engineering, the School of Mechatronic Engineering, and the School of Optical Energy Information and Energy Engineering. The school boasts a faculty team of over 50 members, including 12 professors. Notably, 90% of the faculty hold doctoral degrees, and three have received the second prize of the Hubei Provincial Teaching Achievement Award. Leveraging provincial-level scientific research platforms such as the Hubei Provincial Key Laboratory of Intelligent Robotics, the Hubei Provincial Key Laboratory of Chemical Equipment Strengthening and Intrinsic Safety, and the Hubei Provincial Key Laboratory of Optical Information and Pattern Recognition, as well as provincial-level key teaching demonstration centers like the "Hubei Provincial Intelligent System Simulation Experiment Center" and the "Hubei Provincial Computer Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center", the school aims to cultivate high-quality artificial intelligence talents. It deeply promotes the construction of "New Engineering" majors and serves the economic and social development of Hubei Province.
